Blog: Privacy

In this post, discuss how the issues of privacy and confidentiality are related to new media.

With new media, we see an emergence of hordes of data that people on the internet have access to. There are many positives with new media but this is one of the negatives that everyone sees when they come into contact with social media. Our information is not private and this is what people have warned us about for the past few years. There is a politician named Jon Ossoff who is running in an election, but the other campaigns have tried to put him in a bad light where they defame him using old clips of himself that they found on social media. It is said that his new type of warfare in politics shows how much new media plays a part in our everyday lives whether we know it or not. I believe that privacy should be something that is regulated very closely. Most recently, there was the Zuckerberg incident where millions of account's information was leaked from the Facebook website. However, old politicans did not know how to handle this matter as it was a different era from how they grew up in and could not try to penalize him for this scandal. People have their everyday information readily available online and do not realize how much of an impact this can have on their lives.

  1. Do you think people should be able to see things like the video of the politician and make judgement for themselves? I for one would like to be able to see the if someone is doing reckless things especially if they are running for office.
