BLOG: Blog v Wiki

Blogs and Wikis are two different ways that information is spread. Wikis are collections of information that can be edited by people who see the content and wish to have their own input on whatever subject material is present. Blogs, on the other hand, are more private and has material that is created by content creator of that blog or administrators that have access toe the blog.

I believe that a blog is more to express one's own opinions. For example, in Pentagon Keeps Wary Watch as Troops Blog, the article states that there are two cultures clashing between the use of social media and a more modernized environment compared to the traditional military values and beliefs. However, limiting one's usage of the Internet, even in the military, is denying their right to express their opinion and interaction with others to share their beliefs. It has even been so that in the past people had to show and review their posts before sending them out, especially on blogs. This limits the usage and whole idea of the blog being a way of expressing someone's personal opinion. The military limited the use of blogs because they did not want people to express any extreme beliefs or posts that were inappropriate.

Wikis are more community-based and, as a result, will not have anything too extreme. It is a collaborative effort by multiple parties and open to a lot of people to view and help edit. In What Motivates Wikipedians, the author tries to see why people who post on Wikipedia continue to put effort into this activity. All of these included values, social, understanding, career, protective and enhancement. Most people wanted to contribute because it was fun for them to do so and that it would help spread knowledge compared to if they wanted to for career or protective reasons. Being in a community is mainly about finding your place and people who want to help spread knowledge or even learn more about things that they are interested in will find that here.
